Bleaching / Whitening
Bleaching is a common and popular chemical process used to whiten teeth. Some people get their teeth bleached to make stains disappear, while other just want a whiter shade.
Discoloration occurs in the enamel and can be caused by medication, tobacco, and beverages such as coffee, tea, and red wine. It also can be caused by your genetic make-up or simply getting older.
Dr. Barry employes two methods of whitening teeth. Both methods usually lighten your teeth 5-7 shaded whether you are 24 or 84 in age.
- Single Visit (in-offie) whitening
This can be accomplished in less than two hours. We use a special intense light which activates and accelerates bleaching gels that are applied to the teeth. This is the most popular method because it is instantaneous.
- Take home custom whitening trays
This process is done at home by placing bleaching gel in a custom-fitted tray worn overnight for 2-3 weeks.
Bonding
Bonding is tooth-colored material used to fill in gaps or change the color of teeth. Requiring a single office visit, bonding lasts many years. Bonding is more susceptible to staining or chipping than other forms of restoration. When teeth are chipped or slightly decayed, bonded composite resins may be the material of choice. Bonding also is used as a tooth-colored filling for small cavities and broken or chipped surfaces. Additionally, it can be used to close spaces between teeth or cover the entire outside surface of a tooth to change its color and shape.
Veneers
Veneers are placed over the front teeth to change color or shape of your teeth. Veneers are used on teeth with uneven surfaces or are chipped, discolored, oddly shaped, unevenly spaced or crooked. Veneers are thin pieces of porcelain cemented over the front of your teeth. Veneers are used to treat some of the same problems as bonding. These restorations are beautiful and are very long lasting.
Porcelain Crowns
Dr. Barry uses these types of crowns in any area particulary the front of the mouth that shows when you smile. A really good crown you cannot see. The porcelain crowns are very natural looking in that no one but Dr. Barry and you will know that they are crowns. Using all porcelain eliminates the grey lines that occur at the gumline due to metal show-through of conventional crowns. These are truly natural looking.
Tooth-Colored Fillings
Dr. Barry practices mercury-free dentistry. No more black, unsightly fillings. Teeth look so much better and are actually stronger when restored with bonded, tooth-color composite fillings. Most of the dental professionals are using composite fillings instead of the traditional amalgam. Patients are very happy with this switch.
